01 / ABOUT THE PLACE

About this place

If you order samgyeopsal at Oiso, part of the pleasure is wrapping the meat in lettuce or perilla leaves. One diner reported that the thick, springy meat was filling enough for two, and that making each wrap added to the enjoyment of sharing a meal. Samgyeopsal is on the menu alongside other Korean dishes and hot pots. Choose it when you want meat at the centre of the meal, or opt for gamjatang or seafood hot pot if you would rather gather around a pot. There are options to suit different group sizes and appetites.

At lunchtime, consider one of the soup sets. Choices include yukgaejang, sundubu-jjigae, oxtail soup and ugeoji soup; some sets come with rice and 4 side dishes. A diner who tried the yukgaejang set said it was not too spicy and had egg and glass noodles at the bottom of the bowl. With rice and side dishes, it makes for a lunch built around soup. Samgyetang is another option. One diner found it peppery and enjoyable without adding any extra seasoning. Some set meals are listed with 4 side dishes, too, making them worth considering when you want a soup-centred meal.

For an à la carte dish, there is seafood pancake, japchae or stir-fried squid, among other choices. Seafood pancake has been singled out in a recommendation and can make a useful extra dish when dining with others. Beer and makgeolli are also on the menu. Both lunch and dinner menus are available, and the restaurant is described as suitable for solo dining. Payment is cash only, so it is sensible to bring cash.
